Cách dùng there is và there are.
Khi bạn muốn nói có cái gì đó hoặc không có, ví dụ như có một cái bút ở trên bàn, thì chúng ta dùng mẫu câu there is hoặc there are sau đó là danh từ.
Nếu là danh từ số ít thì ta dùng there is ở dạng sau
There + is/was/has been + [danh từ số ít/hoặc danh từ không đếm được]
Còn nếu là danh từ số nhiều thì dùng there are ở dạng sau
There + are/were/have been + [danh từ số nhiều]
Ví dụ:
There is a pen on the table
Có một cái bút ở trên bàn
There is ice on the lake
Có đá ở trên mặt hồ
There are no students in the class room
Không có sinh viên nào ở trong lớp
There was an accident yesterday
Có một vụ tai nạn ngày hôm qua
There have been a couple of phone calls today
Có một vài cuộc gọi điện thoại ngày hôm nay
