Talking Nộp bi cho c thui...

This is the VOA Special English Education Report.

This week in our Foreign (1) Student Series (2), we continue our discussion of college entrance exam (3). So far we talked about (4) three tests that are widely (5) accepted by American schools. These (6) are the SAT, the ACT and the TOEFL. The TOEFL is the Test of English as the Foreign Language (7).

Now we have a question from a student in France (8) about another test. Cire Kaba plans to enter (9) an American college or (10) university. The question is: when applying (11) to a school in the United States, can the TOEIC replace (12) the TOEFL? The TOEIC is the Test of English for International Communication (13).

The short answer (14) to the question is no.

Administration officers (15) at American colleges and universities generally do not recognise (16) TOEIC results. The same is true of scholarship (17) and extrance programs (18) as well. But some schools and English programs in the United States do use (19) the test. So we though (20) this would be a good chance (21) to explain the TOEIC.

ETS, the Educational Testing Service (22) in Princeton, New Jersey, develops and administers (23) both the TOEFL and the TOEIC. It says the TOEIC measures (24) the everyday English skills of people working in an international environment (25).

None neither (26) English speakers take the test to demonstrate(27) their English language skills when applying for jobs. Organizations also use the TOEIC to measure progress (28) in English training (29) programs. And they use it to consider people for placement (30) at the right level (31) in language programs.

Several thousand (32) companies, English programs and government agencies (33) use the TOEIC. The test is offered in about sixty (34) countries.

The TOEFL is based on English used in the classroom (35). The TOEIC is based on English used in the work places (36). But the Educational Testing Service says the test does not require knowledge of (37) special business words (38). It says the questions come from real situations like attending (39) a company meeting.

The TOEIC measures listening and reading skills -- and, beginning of December (40), ETS will offer speaking and writing tests. For a link to the Educational Testing Service Web site, where you can get (41) more information about the TOEIC and the TOEFL, go to (42) voaspecialenglish.com.

You can also download (43) MP3 (44) and transcripts (45) of the earlier reports in our Foreign Student Series.

And that's (46) the VOA Special English Education Report, written by Nancy Steinbach. I'm Bob Doughty.[/QUOTE]
