Before answering your question, I would like to review the syntax of the sentence with you.
The word “home” in “drive home” is an adverb according to the OALD:
to or at the place where you live
Come on, it's time to go home.
What time did you get home last night?
The trip has been exhausting and I'll be glad to be home.
After a month, they went back home to America.
It was a lovely day so I walked home.
Anna will drive me home after work.
Hopefully the doctors will allow her home tomorrow.
Drunk is defined by the OALD as an adjective.
[not usually before noun] having drunk so much alcohol that it is impossible to think or speak clearly
She was too drunk to remember anything about the party.
His only way of dealing with his problems was to go out and get drunk.
They got drunk on vodka.
Police arrested him for being drunk and disorderly (= violent or noisy in a public place because of being drunk).
In the text sentence, “he had driven home drunk once too often”, home is an adverb and drunk is an adjective. Therefore, the text is not an abbreviated form of “driven home and drunk” because that would be grammatically incorrect as you can’t use the conjunction “and” to link an adverb with an adjective. The conjunction “and” can only link two items of the same parts of speech (adjectives together, adverbs together, nouns together etc.)
Instead, the text sentence is simply a more concise replacement for this wordy sentence: “He had driven home while being drunk once too often”
- vế 2 có 2 động từ đứng cạnh nhau là sao nhỉ : got stopped
The verb “get” is one of the many verbs that have linking properties, that is, they can sometimes replace the verb “to be” and they can be used with adjectives directly.
When “get” is used as a linking verb, it means “reach a particular state or condition”
From the OALD,
Get
state/condition
linking verb to reach a particular state or condition; to make somebody/something/yourself reach a particular state or condition
+ adj. to get angry/bored/hungry/fat
You'll soon get used to the climate here.
We ought to go; it's getting late.
to get dressed/undressed (= to put your clothes on/take your clothes off)
They plan to get married in the summer.
She's upstairs getting ready.
I wouldn't go there alone; you might get (= be) mugged.
My car got (= was) stolen at the weekend.
In your text example, "this time he got stopped by the police" is another way of saying "this time he was stopped by the police"

Cho mình hỏi với ạ:
"There are 12 topic-based units which cover each of the four IELTS academic modules and all task types, as well as giving carefully guided support and exam focused practice."
Cho mình hỏi tại sao phần in đậm không phải làas well as to give mà lại làgiving ạ?
