A for and against essay
In this lesson we'll look at the stages necessary to write a for and against essay.
The essay is
"discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living in city."
We'll use the following format
• Introduction
• 1 paragraph giving the advantages of living in the city
• 1 paragraph giving the disadvantages of lining in a city
•conclusion
Getting our ideas
It is important to think about what we are going to write. Make some quick notes of the advantages and disadvantages
Advantages:
• Lots of things to do
• Employment opportunities
• Education
• Healthcare
Disadvantages:
• Pollution
• Crime
• Traffic
• Expensive

We need to back up our ideas - to give examples
Advantages:
• Lots of things to do: Nightlife, cinemas, museums,shops
• Employment opportunities: Factories, companies, shops
• Education: More choice of schools and universities
• Healthcare: More and better hospitals
Disadvantages:
• Pollution: Factories, pollution from cars.
• Crime: Burglaries, street crime
• Traffic: Lots of cars on the road, long commuting times
• Expensive: Accommodation, shopping, public transport
