What's SLANG? Slang is very informal language that is used especially by people who belong to a particular group, such as young people or criminals.

We often use slang in our daily conversations in Vietnamese i.e. "trùi ui" = "trời ơi"; "biến" = "đi khỏi"; "chai" = "triệu";.... It comes to the same thing in English language; so learning slang partly means learning spoken language and developing our speaking skill.

To begin with, I put a very familiar slang here:

- See ya: (c ya)
Definition: A way of saying "good-bye."
Example: Matt yelled "See ya!" as he left the house.
Etymology: 'See ya' is an informal way to say 'See you later'.
Synonyms: later

One more,

- Outta here:
Definition: A phrase indicating that someone is leaving.
Example:
1) I'm outta here! See you next week!
2) It looks like Stephan is finally outta here - we will miss him as the chicken misses flight.
Etymology: This slang comes from the phrase 'out of here', which is also used to indicate that you are leaving (or going out of) this place (or here).

-sell out
Definition: To abandon your ideals or moral principles in order to make money.
Example: 1) I thought Willie Nelson was a complete sell out when he started rapping on his CDs.
2) If you become a sell out, your soul will never be clean.


-pick up the tab

Definition: To pay for the bill; to take the check, usually at the end of a meal.
Example: 1) Every time I have dinner with Chris, he always makes me pick up the tab.
